According to the Ministry of State Security, a Chinese national surnamed Zeng, who was born in July 1971, was employed by a military-industrial group in this capital and played a leading role in classified work.
During the period when Zeng was studying in Italy, sponsored by his company, a US Embassy official named “Seth” took the initiative to get to know him.
Zeng and Seth began to share leisure activities until the latter revealed his identity as a CIA agent in Rome, promised rewards, and Zeng and his family’s transfer to the United States.
The Chinese citizen accepted the proposal, signed an espionage agreement, underwent evaluations and training provided by the US side, the text informed.
Once in China, the spy repeatedly met with CIA personnel, provided sensitive information, and received funds.
The investigation noted that the Ministry of State Security received substantial evidence of Zeng’s espionage activities and took legal measures to eliminate the threat he provoked.
