Pretoria, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) The South African government condemned again the violence derived from the taxi drivers' strike that continues in Cape Town, while ordering the competent agencies to ensure the safety of citizens.

So far, the Mayor’s Office of Cape Town, in the southern province of Western Cape, says that almost 200 criminal cases related to the strike by taxi drivers belonging to the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) have been registered at local police stations since the start of the protests.

These include, he detailed, murder, attempted murder, arson and malicious damage to property.

At least five people have been killed in alleged strike-related incidents since last Thursday. Separately, Santaco today confirmed that it will meet with Cape Town authorities and the provincial government to discuss the possibility of ending demonstrations over labor demands.
