CubaCoop denounced in its weekly publication “La lettre électronique Hebdo”, which circulates to thousands of readers in France, that a few days ago it was notified by a bank about the closure of its current account, which it had operated for several years without incident, with no official justification for it.

According to the association, this confirms that the French bank folds to the extraterritoriality of the blockade imposed against Cuba by the United States.

“It is inadmissible that this happens and that a policy, which is illegal according to international standards, is implemented against a French organization dedicated to developing cooperation between the two countries,” the association stressed.

CubaCoop recalled that the extraterritorial edge of Washington’s blockade led the BNP Paribas bank to pay a multi-million-dollar fine.

It also informed that it will appeal to French authorities, including the President of the Republic, and will demand that national laws and those of the European Union be respected, in full exercise of its sovereignty.

The association reiterated its condemnation of the US blockade and its call to work in coordination in Europe to combat it.

In January 2023, CubaCoop delivered a petition to the European Parliament, together with organizations from Spain, Italy and Sweden, in which it demanded that the EU assume its responsibilities and confront the US extraterritorial policy, which affects European companies, banks and citizens.

The Petitions Committee of the Eurochamber declared the request admissible, which may lead to debates on the subject.
