According to a communiqué from the state-owned Fana Broadcasting Corporate, the areas with the largest population, high commercial and tourist activity, and political and industrial centers, were prioritized in the initial stage of the restoration activities.
The General Directorate of the State of Emergency confirmed the recovery of peaceful conditions in Bahir Dar, Debre Markos, Debre Birhan, Lalibela, Gonder and Shewa Robit.
The Fano armed group that operates in Amhara was offered the opportunity to surrender to the armed forces; however, they rejected the proposal. Consequently, appropriate measures were taken to ensure compliance with the law in those cities.
According to the statement, the population in general rejected vandalism and insecurity, and supported the government’s troops, which focused on capturing the members of the group, described as extremist, and restoring citizen tranquility.
Curfews were announced until August 23 in the recovered towns, and 14 suspects were arrested in Addis Ababa.
