The Assistant Secretary-General for Africa Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee described how war has spread with dire consequences, especially in Khartoum, Bahri, Omdurman and Darfur.
“It is time to put an end to this senseless conflict and return to negotiations, and a peaceful solution must be found urgently,” she said.
Meanwhile, Edem Wosornu, Director of Operations and Advocacy at the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, added that the situation is particularly alarming in Khartoum, as well as in the Darfur and Kordofan regions.
Around 80% of hospitals across the country are not functioning while 14 million children in Sudan, half of all children in the country, are in need of humanitarian support.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan Clementine Nkweta-Salami demanded the warring sides ensure safe passage for civilians fleeing the conflict.
