Debates begin before Africa Climate Summit

Addis Ababa, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) The African Union and the embassies of Kenya and Denmark addressed the potential and importance of multi-hazard early warning and action systems (MHEWAS) prior to the Africa Climate Summit (ACS), it was reported on Wednesday.

The debates are based on the work initiated by the political organization and will provide space to discuss the key challenges in the implementation of these systems before the Africa Climate Summit, scheduled from September 4 to 6, in Nairobi, the Kenyan Embassy wrote on its X, formerly Twitter, account.

They will also provide information on how the MHEWAS can support the African Union’s Climate Change and Resilient Development Strategy and Action Plan (2022-2032).

The Summit, promoted by President William Ruto, aims to address the increasing exposure to climate change and its associated costs, both globally and particularly in Africa, the event’s official website stated.

With climate crises expected to escalate in terms of frequency and intensity, urgent action is required to mitigate these challenges, it warned.

The Summit will serve as a platform to inform, frame, and influence commitments, pledges, and outcomes, ultimately leading to the development of the Nairobi Declaration.
