The executive president of Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB), Carlos Ramos, confirmed that the Lithium Carbonate Industrial Plant being built in the Uyuni salt flat, Potosí department, will be inaugurated this month.
He assured that this is a milestone because “it is perhaps one of the most important activities in our country, because we are going to take that step that we have been expecting for so many years, which we are consolidating in our management.”
The new complex has an annual production capacity of 15,000 tons of lithium carbonate; however, it is expected to place an initial production of more than 2,000 tons on the market from August to December.
Ramos pointed out that they plan to produce that tonnage in the first phase, and added that sales of lithium carbonate will bring more income because the plant’s production will also be marketed on a pilot scale.
The investment into the industrial plant required an outlay of approximately 130 million dollars.
Lithium carbonate is the fundamental raw material for the manufacture of cathodes and batteries, in great demand given the current growing production of electrical vehicles amid a global energy revolution.
