Upon welcoming Cabello, Morales said that both political organizations will continue to work on issues of mutual interest, and ratified his conviction that this visit will take relations between both parties to a higher level, according to the CCPCC Twitter profile.
Cabello, in turn, explained aspects of the PSUV’s work and asserted that Cuba is part of the Bolivarian Revolution, because they are “two nations that cannot be conceived in isolation.”
Accompanied by a delegation made up of five Venezuelan vice presidents and other leaders, Cabello arrived on Monday in Santiago de Cuba, where he was welcomed by the main political and governmental authorities of the province.
In Santiago de Cuba, the Venezuelan leader paid tribute to the founding fathers of the Cuban nation and, especially, to Apostle José Martí and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery.
The PSUV first vice president noted, “Personally, it is a debt I had with Fidel, and today I feel comforted to fulfill it. We feel we are among brothers, more than among friends; the same things hurt us, the same things make us happy… the same things unite us.”
Standing in front of the monolith that keeps Fidel Castro’s ashes, Cabello assured that “imperialism has not been able to defeat either Cubans or Venezuelans. Cuba has been the inspiration for us, to move forward, it has taught us to fight… to resist in battle.”
He also recalled that his first meeting with Fidel Castro, in 1999, lasted eight hours, and convinced him that “Cuba and Venezuela are still one and the same flag.”
