Haitian criminals release kidnapped doctor

Port-au-Prince, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) Doctor Reynold Grand-Pierre was released from captivity two days after his kidnapping in the Tabarre area, which has been the scene of attacks by armed gangs for several days.

The general coordinator of the Haitian Medical Association (AMH), Jean Ardouin Louis Charles, confirmed the news to the press, without elaborating about the conditions of Grand-Pierre’s release.

Grand-Pierre, an expert in obstetrics and gynecology and former director of the Family Health Unit of the Ministry of Health, was kidnapped on July 22 in the vicinity of the town’s public market, north of the capital.

The AMH, which at the time demanded Grand-Pierre’s immediate and unconditional release, also called on authorities to assume their responsibilities and guarantee the safety of Haitian physicians, professionals and citizens in general. “The Haitian Medical Association asks the prime minister to end this evil that is destroying the people,” the platform demanded.

In July alone, the Center for Analysis and Research in Human Rights reported 83 cases of kidnappings.
