The exhibition, which will open at the El Reino de Este Mundo Gallery, at the José Martí National Library in Cuba on August 11, is based on a speech delivered by the Commander-in-Chief after the World Meeting of Solidarity on November 25, 1994.
“Fidel’s speech gave an overview of the entire 20th century, so I choose some paragraphs and take them to painting to leave a legacy for the new generations,” the painter told Prensa Latina.
Martínez recalled that Fidel addressed several issues, such as the United States blockade against Cuba, US interference in several regional processes, the coup d’état in Chile, nuclear wars, Apartheid, internationalism, and the solidarity practiced by the Revolution.
A total of 23 paintings, on which Martinez used several techniques such as mixed painting, acrylic, watercolor, and ink, will be on display.
Since the 1990s, Carol Martínez has presented several solo and collective exhibitions in Chile and other countries in Latin America and Europe.
