Through social media, the president of the sub-regional organization, Bola Hamed Tinubu, also president of Nigeria, said that the forum will also evaluate the recent events in Niamey.
The new summit of the 15-nation Ecowas is convened after the expiration last Sunday of the one-week deadline given by the organization to the Nigerian coup authorities to release the retained ruler of the country, Mohamed Bazoum, and to reinstate the constitutional order.
Following the military coup d’état in Niger on July 26, Ecowas threatened to carry out a military intervention in that African state if the imposed military junta does not return power to Bazoum.
