Russian air defense thwarts attempted drone attack against Moscow

Moscow, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) The Russian Armed Forces thwarted a Ukrainian attempt to attack the Moscow region using a drone, which was shot down over the Podolsk district, the Ministry of Defense reported.

The statement from the Ministry of Defense specifies that the Ukrainian military attempted a terrorist attack this Sunday at 11:27 (Moscow time) with using an unmanned aerial vehicle against targets in the Russian capital.

“The drone was destroyed by the air defense over the Podolsk district. the foiled terrorist attack caused no casualties or material damage,” the ministry said.

The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, reported for his part that the timely and professional actions of the air defense personnel made it possible to bring the drone down as it approached the capital.

The Vnukovo airport in Moscow introduced temporary restrictions on the arrival and departure of planes for security reasons, forcing flights to be diverted to other destinations.
