At the end of Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil official visit to Iran, he told Al-Watan newspaper that his intensive agenda of talks with senior Iranian officials addressed partnership and cooperation in the fields of energy, trade and economy.
Abandoning the dollar in trade relations and using national currencies would undoubtedly lead to an increase in the volume of exports and imports between the two countries, the senior officer said.
During the Syrian Holder’s meeting with Minister of Economic and Financial Affairs Ehsan Khandozi, the establishment of a joint insurance company, whose shares will be 60% from the Iranian side and 40% from the Syrian side, was officially announced.
It was also agreed to open branches of two non-governmental Iranian banks in Syria with the aim of encouraging companies and contractors to operate in the Syrian market.
In turn, the governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Reza Farzin, said after his meeting with the Syrian Ministers of Economy and Telecommunications, that one of his country’s important strategies in the development of trade cooperation with Syria and neighboring states, is the adoption of national currencies in banking relations.
The Syrian minister’s talks also covered cooperation in rehabilitating power plants damaged during the war, and it was also agreed that Tehran will contribute to the reconstruction of facilities generating five thousand megawatts.
