The discussion was held at the 46th meeting of the Tripartite Technical Experts Group, organized by the Malacca Straits Council (MSC) last Wednesday and Thursday in Singapore.
The high volume of traffic, the length of the lane and its geographical features have become a challenge for the three countries to ensure safe navigation and environmental protection. During the meeting, initiatives were discussed on plans to change the existing mandatory ship reporting system, the vessel routing system and explore improvements in pilotage services to enhance the safety of navigation and protection of the marine environment.
The commitments agreed at the meeting will not only be directed to the three countries, but also to international organizations, user countries and other stakeholders to improve navigational safety and environmental protection.
