On Thursday, the jurors: National Dance Award winners Johannes García (president) and Santiago Alfonso, as well as the artist and teacher of Cuba’s National Circus, Daria María Vigo, announced the award winner.
A circus artist by family tradition, Venero de la Paz ventured into different circus specialties, including capillary force, oscillating stairs, and acrobatic adagio, among others. She has also received several national and international prizes throughout her long career as a circus artist.
The laureate has dedicated 59 years to the circus as an artist and teacher, and in 2006 she became a researcher of Cuban and international circus, according to the Cubarte portal.
She was the founder of companies like Circo Nacional; Circo Camagüey and Circo Areíto, in Camagüey, Circo Villa Clara, and Circo Parque Granma, in Bayamo, in eastern Granma province.
For 11 years, she has served as president of the Circus and Variety section at the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), according to a press release from the National Council of Performing Arts.
