FAO works with Cuba to prevent food losses

Havana, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) informed on Friday that it is collaborating with Cuba to prevent and reduce food loss and waste.

In a press release issued by the FAO office in Havana, the international organization stated that it would work closely with the National Committee for the Prevention and Reduction of Food Losses and Waste, providing technical expertise to address food losses and waste in the country.

In the context of implementing the Law on Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutrition Security (SSAN), Mariana Pérez, a coordinator of the National Committee on Food Losses and Waste, met with FAO Representative in Cuba, Marcelo Resende, to strengthen alliances and work together.

The press release stated that with the FAO technical assistance, they work on national guidelines to reduce food losses.

This new approach will allow each municipality in Cuba to develop and apply its own prevention and reduction strategy in the production chains as part of the Municipal Development Strategy, they stated.
