Argentina: Milagro Sala denounces persecution and judicial violations

Buenos Aires, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) Argentinean social leader Milagro Sala denounced the persecution by the government of the province of Jujuy, the impediments to receive medical care and judicial violations in her case.

The leader of the Tupac Amaru organization has been detained for seven years for allegedly inciting violence when she led a protest against changes imposed by the governor of that territory, Gerardo Morales, in the cooperatives program.

She is currently under house arrest and multiple organizations have denounced the humiliation, abuse and attacks to which she have been subjected.

In addition, they warned about her state of health, affected by episodes of deep vein thrombosis and kidney problems.

In statements published by the Página 12 newspaper, Sala questioned the attempts to transfer her to a common prison, despite medical studies that recommend her immediate transfer to Buenos Aires to undergo surgery.

I have 19 cases and they are harassing me more and more. They are letting me die little by little. I run the risk of losing a leg, she said and explained that she does not intend to victimize herself, but to be in good health to accompany her husband, Raúl Noro, who has been diagnosed with a terminal illness.

On the other hand, she condemned the outrages to democracy committed by Morales in Jujuy, who promoted a strongly criticized constitutional reform and ordered the repression of those who opposed it.

Sala accused Morales of trying to “discipline” social organizations and persecute unions and native peoples.

It would seem that we are living in the worst moments of 1976, she said, referring to the year in which the last civil-military dictatorship began in Argentina.
