During the UN Security Council (UNSC) session on food security -called by the United States, Mr. Blinken referred to the aftermaths of the Ukraine conflict, heeding attention to Russia’s actions.
Since Blinken is FAO´s top U.S. representative, the diplomat called for FAO member states to take measures so that Russia cannot use food as a “weapon of war.”
Meanwhile, Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy recalled the U.S. role in many of the globe’s most acute food crises.
Polyanskiy added that such crises are directly or indirectly triggered by Washington’s actions and its allies.
According to UN estimates, there is no technically acute food shortage in the world, the predicament is its unequal distribution, he insisted.
Polyanskiy claimed that the current context is furthermore the result of the accumulation of the western supplies whilst developing countries suffer from shortages.
