Brazil backs peace in Russia-Ukraine conflict, says President Lula

brasil-768x578
Brasilia, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva claimed that Brazil's role regarding the Russia-Ukraine armed conflict is to find a peace proposal and common denominator.

“Brazil will always work for peace, for a path to find a solution,” Lula said in a first meeting with foreign correspondents accredited in Brazil, while pointing out the Ukraine conflict is not the solution, but the peace and then reconstruction, and insisting his country intends to build a peaceful proposal as opposing parties are in conditions to negotiate the end of the war confrontation.

In this regard, Lula hinted Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskiy are not yet willing to reach an agreement for the longed-for peace.

He urged for this war, which should have been avoided, to be discussed by the United Nations.

Questioned about the BRICS bank, Lula responded that it should be more generous than the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Lula agreed that Saudi Arabia should join BRICS, since “we want a strong BRICS to aid other nations”.

Concerning the prevailing global inequality, the Brazilian leader recalled the world powers spent much more on weapons, while millions of people go hungry and children cannot have access to at least a glass of milk every day.

“I´m against all kinds of inequality,” Lula stated.

Asked about hard economic situation in Argentina and the upcoming elections, Lula explained he prefers to remain silent about the elections.

Once again he pointed out that he wants to help Buenos Aires because “Brazil does not want to grow alone in the region” and the IMF should not be a sword hanging over the head of Argentina.
