In an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina, Herrera announced the attendance of about 4,000 youth athletes (aged 15 to 17) from 12 regional countries, plus Russia as a guest country. “We intend to leverage the 5th ALBA Games by using the same sport centers and sub-venues (Gran Caracas, Aragua and Miranda),” Herrera said about the competition.
“We want to show that despite the U.S. blockade and economic sanctions, Venezuela is able to organize major sporting events. Those circumstances caused these Games be interrupted in 2017, plus the arrival of Covid-19 times; fortunately, now we managed to resume them, Herrera concluded.
