Troubadours went to communities in Cuba’s eastern province

Guantanamo, Cuba, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) The dialogue on social issues that feeds Cuban trobadours moves today to communities in this eastern province, after the opening of the Jornada de la Cancion Politica (Political Song Day) in its 47th edition.

The longest-running event developed by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) returns to the cultural panorama of Guantanamo with its usual exchange of knowledge and cultures in local communities.

The event, which will last until Friday, plans to extend its program to the municipalities of Manuel Tames, Niceto Perez and Caimanera, to learn about community traditions such as the Crab Festival that nourishes the idiosyncrasy of those territories.

The public of this province, which inspired the internationally famous song “la Guantanamera”, is eager to interact with the exponents of Cuban trova and share chords, rhythms and autochthonous cultural values, Dairon Martínez, president of the local AHS said.

This is considered a territory that contributes with musical roots such as the son and the changüí that contribute to the cultural heritage of Cuba, so the troubadour event favors the feedback with the traditions of the neighborhood, Martínez explained.

After the opening concert last night, called “proposiciones” in honor of an emblematic piece of music by the unforgettable Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés, troubadours, poets, and researchers of the sector, give their art to residents in various community spaces. On the second day of the Political Song Day, there will also be presentations of books, records and video clips, exhibitions, lectures, conferences, peñas, downloads and tours of peculiar sites such as the Cuban military unit bordering the illegal U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay.
