At a meeting with the Syrian foreign minister, who is on an official visit to Iran, the Iranian president hailed the firmness of the Syrian people and leadership in the face of adversities and plots during the war.
Foreign Minister Al-Mekdad expressed his country’s willingness to enhance cooperation, and stated that security and stability would be achieved by strengthening coordination between Syria and Iran against foreign interference.
Ali Akbar Ahmadian, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, also met with Al-Mekdad. Ahmadian highlighted the historic relations between the two countries and repeated Iran’s support for Syria in the fight against terrorism.
Damascus and Tehran have maintained a strategic alliance since the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, strengthened by Iranian support for the fight against terrorism during the war that Syria has waged since 2011.
