Colombian society’s participation in peace process highlighted

Bogota, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) Senator Iván Cepeda, member of the government delegation in the peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN), highlighted the first meeting of the National Participation Committee.

The creation of this committee responds to the agreements reached between the government of Gustavo Petro, representing the Colombian State, and this guerrilla.

“The construction of peace with the ELN will count on the active intervention of the people in the territories and at the national level. The communities will be the center of this process”, the congressman and one of the personalities most linked to the search for peace in Colombia emphasized.

Tomorrow, the members of this special and transitory instance, articulated to the Peace Dialogues Table, will be presented in a public event.

This Thursday, the Bilateral, National and Temporary Ceasefire Agreement will also come into force for 180 days, until January 29, 2024.

The ceasefire could be renewed depending on how the measure goes, Aureliano Carbonell, from the ELN peace delegation said yesterday in an interview with Colombia +20, a project of the newspaper El Espectador.
