In a ceremony held in the country´s capital, CUECH´s Head Osvaldo Corrales recalled that there are over 260 people executed in the country’s higher education centers and many of them are part of the detained-missing people.
The tribute took place at the University of Santiago de Chile, formerly the State Technical University (UTE), and was attended by Chilean President Gabriel Boric, rectors of the institutions belonging to the consortium, and several government ministers.
“The genocides of the 20th century did not end with World War II, after Auschwitz we have had to witness how brutality and barbarism have been repeated over and over in different areas of the globe until nowadays,” said Corrales.
Corrales also recalled that dozens of instructors, officials, students and graduates were tortured, murdered or missing, among them the famous singer-songwriter and teacher Victor Jara.
At the closing ceremony, Boric warned of those who are currently trying to separate the institutional rupture with what happened afterwards. pll/omr/rgh/car
