An official press release from the FAO representation in Cuba stated that over 2,000 people in four Pinar del Río municipalities are recovering 20 poultry farms affected by Hurricane Ian.
The operation strengthens local food production capacity and increases the availability of eggs in the communities.
It was possible due to a joint effort between FAO and the Belgian Government, with resources from the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities-Agricultural Input Response Capacity (SFERA-AIRC).
The release stated that the purchase of 24 steel coils and their hooks allowed the production of 24,455 metal tiles, which were delivered to the Poultry Enterprise in Pinar del Río province under the direction of the Poultry Group of the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG).
The resources were distributed in eight Basic Enterprise Units (UEB) in Pinar del Río, Viñales, Consolación del Sur, and Guanes municipalities.
