Dominican CMD launches new 48-hour work stoppage

Santo Domingo, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) on Tuesday announced a 48-hour work stoppage on August 10-11, after considering a success the strike carried out yesterday to claim a response to their demands.

The CMD leader Senen Caba told local press this new measure is part of the struggling plan to call for their multiple and fair requests to the Administrators of Health Risks (ARS).

Caba pointed out the CMD and the Specialized Medical Societies will be joined by the associations of dentists and psychologists.

CMD’s leader considered Monday´s strike in hospitals and private clinics a success, and noted that during that time emergency and serious patients were attended.

Both organizations are calling for an increased healthcare, an 8,000 Dominican pesos (about USD$144) ARSs offer for purchasing medicines, as well as better medical coverage for patients suffering from mental disorders.
