The uniformed officers were on patrol when they were seriously wounded in the town of Ilobasco, department of Cabañas.

The PNC Workers Movement specified that the attack occurred in the Maquilishuat canton, where more uniformed officers were deployed to find the perpetrators.

The uniformed were transported in helicopters to the capital for medical attention, added the entity.

It is not clear if the attackers are linked to gang groups that moved to rural shelters in response to the strong government offensive to dismantle the existing networks in the country, as a result of which about 72,000 gang members and alleged collaborators were arrested.
