They demand in Panama a better Cuba without the US blockade

Panama City, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) Members of the Martí Association of Cuban Residents in Panama (Amcrp) here today demanded better times for their homeland, whose main obstacle is the blockade imposed by the United States, which they demanded must cease.

After a little more than an hour of traveling through the main arteries of the Isthmus capital of a caravan of cars -the eleventh since its first edition in March 2021-, protesters gathered in the Belisario Porras park, right next to the bust of the National Hero José Martí.

From the emblematic space, participants in this initiative were joined by members of the National Solidarity Coordinator, social and union organizations and the state mission to demand an end to the failed hostile policy of Washington for more than 60 years.

The coordinator of the Amcrp, Humberto Pérez, recognized the reception of these caravans against the US siege, with an increasing number of sympathizers and also made special recognition to the Panamanian police and transit forces that have guaranteed the safety of the routes.

At the rally, Pérez also highlighted that other ways to confront the increasing coercive measures of the White House have been the shipments to Havana of containers with medical supplies for the benefit of the health system and which are distributed on the island with the help of the sociocultural project Cabildo Quisicuaba. In his turn, the ambassador of the Antillean nation in the isthmus, Víctor Cairo, explained that the rally against the blockade brought to a close an extensive commemorative program for the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, on July 26 of 1953.

The Cuban people, the triumphant Revolution in 1959, solidarity from its very essences, deserve to live without blockade, and in this noble cause that is supported by international solidarity, we are assisted by the faith in victory of those young people of the feat that the National Rebellion Day, led by Fidel Castro.

The diplomat also evoked the martyrs of the Revolution, whose anniversary is commemorated on the day, in remembrance of the murders of Frank País and Raúl Pujol.

The week of commemoration for the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada barracks in Panama also included the presentation at the Cine Universitario of the film “Ciudad en Rojo” by the Santiago filmmaker Rebeca Chávez, which recreates the novel Bertillón 166 by writer José Soler Puig.

The tribute was not lacking in fraternal meetings and coexistence between Panamanians and Cubans such as the one held in the La Guantanamera restaurant, where typical dishes of the gastronomy, music and native dances of both sister nations were fused.
