The decision was set out in the final declaration of the four-hour meeting led by President Mahmoud Abbas as part of Egypt’s efforts to promote Palestinian unity.
Abbas said the new committee would be tasked with completing talks on various issues discussed already.
During the meeting, Abbas warned the division must end immediately in order to unify efforts in the struggle against the Israeli occupation.
At the same time, he stressed “the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is the sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinian people” and therefore called for support for its political program and international liabilities.
The head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS) Ismail Haniyeh, on the other hand, called for the holding of talks, believing that it is the starting point for building national unity.
