His statements came at the El Galpon theater, in downtown Montevideo, where hundreds of people commemorated the 70th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Garrison in Cuba, where that deed is celebrated as National Rebelliousness Day.
The Broad Front is a member of the Uruguayan Anti-imperialist Committee for Solidarity with Cuba and the Peoples of the World, which is the event’s planner.
From the podium, Pereira demanded respecting Cuba’s self-determination and ending the inhumane United States blockade against that country.
“Every day the blockade costs the Cuban people 15 million dollars in losses,” the FA leader stressed.
He also described as unilateral and immoral Cuba’s inclusion in the State Sponsors of Terrorism list, a pretext by Washington to make life more difficult for the Cuban people.
Pereira evoked milestones in historic bilateral relations, including Jose Marti’s work as Uruguay’s consul in New York, and Cuba’s hospitality to hundreds of exiled Uruguayan victims of the dictatorship.
The FA top representative also praised the work of the Cuban medical brigade that has accumulated over 100,000 ophthalmologic interventions in nearly 16 years of services in Uruguay.
