The Defense Ministry’s Spokesperson, Colonel Tan Kefei, made that statement due to Washington’s latest arms sale to Taiwan.

The spokesperson denounced the US House of Representatives’ decision on the Defense Authorization 2024 Bill, which includes provisions for the supply of military munitions to Taiwan and the invitation to participate in military exercises in the Pacific. “The United States has repeatedly breached its commitments,” Tan underscored, and he demanded the end of ongoing military contacts with Taiwan.

The colonel assured that these actions have posed a serious threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and have created significant strategic risks in military relations between Beijing and Washington.

He noted that Taiwan is part of Chinese territory and that its “independence” is a “fire” that can cause “a disaster to peace across the strait.”

The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday denounced the Washington’s decision to use the National Defense Authorization Act to include negative content related to China.

“Intentionally restricting or interfering with normal economic, trade and investment activities in industry and the private sector is contrary to the principles of the market economy,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said.

Mao pointed out that such actions would disrupt global production and supply chains, eventually hurting US investors themselves.
