Speaking the Chamber of Deputies of Chile, Barrera, from the Communist Party, greeted the brotherly Cuban people on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrisons, a setback that history turned into a victory, he said.
Barrera added that despite being subjected to an economic, commercial and financial blockade for more than 60 years, that friendly, brotherly, supportive and resilient people have made great achievements in science and medicine that have selflessly contributed to humanity.
The lawmaker recalled that in 30 voting sessions at the United Nations, an overwhelming majority of countries, including Chile, have condemned Washington’s unilateral policy.
However, the blockade not only remains in place, but has been intensified since the Donald Trump administration, condemning the Cuban people to suffer from its consequences and exacerbating the difficulties.
It is for all these reasons that I call on this chamber, but mainly on the President of the Republic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to stand up once again, for humanitarian reasons, in favor of an end to the economic sanctions against Cuba.
