In a statement, the solidarity network, made up of over 15 organizations, praised the significance of the July 26 historic deed and also stated it marked the beginning of a new era in Latin America.
The network recalled that despite failing to hit the military goals for the armed action led by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, a period of struggle started off, ending up with the January 1, 1959, Revolution Triumph.
The text also stressed how the Cuban Revolution has since then become target of attacks by successive US governments, an imperialist nation that has kept and tightened an economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba for over 60 years.
We expressed our rejection of this unilateral measure, which, far from disappearing or diminishing as called for by most of nations, has been increasingly tightened recently, even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“But when revolutions are true, they know how to face difficulties and aggressions, and in the spirit of the Moncada heroes, Cuba´s National Rebellion Day has become a date of struggle across Latin America as well as an example for those peoples fighting for their freedom,” the document read.
Cuba’s July 26 date should serve as a spur to all peoples around the globe in order to strengthen solidarity with Cuba, “and that the spark of freedom that illuminates the path of just causes should continue to be lit”.
