Madrid, Jul 25 (Prensa Latina) Classics of Cuban popular music with dance rhythms fill expectations in Madrid, where the Estrellas de Buena Vista y Más, a project with a promising future, will perform on Wednesday.

Just listening to the chords of Compay Segundo’s Chan Chan would be enough to identify with this version that involves 11 musicians, several of whom are original members of the Buena Vista Social Club that captivated the world in the 1990s and at the beginning of the new century.

An extension of the excellence of Cuba’s most popular songs, which will be played at the Galileo Hall in Madrid on Wednesday, with an audience ready to follow the rhythms of Chan Chan, but also Bilongo, Ay candela, Quizás, quizás, quizás, boleros by Miguel Matamoros, among others.

The show’s premier took place at the Teatro Leal (La Laguna, Tenerife) on March 12, with resounding success, to such an extent that the promoters were forced to organize two more concerts on the Canary Islands, in Los Cristianos and Garachico, before the group’s return to Cuba.

They also performed for the press at the Madrid-based Casa de América, where they were welcomed with special interest, due to the prestige that Cuban music enjoys in Spain.

The project is a tribute and, at the same time, the rescue of the memorable Buena Vista Social Club of 25 years ago, with some of its original members such as vocalist Carlos Calunga, percussionist Angel Terry, saxophonist Javier Zalba and bassist Pedro Pablo Gutierrez.
