China reappoints Wang Yi as its Foreign Minister

Beijing, Jul 25 (Prensa Latina) The Standing Committee of China's 14th National People's Congress appointed Wang Yi as Foreign Minister, who had held the post from 2013 to 2022.

According to a report by Xinhua news agency, during its fourth meeting the Congress also appointed Pan Gongsheng as president of the People’s Bank of China.

Wang Yi has served as Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) since 2022, and is thus the highest-ranking diplomat of China.

He has also served as a State Councilor since 2018 and a member of the CCP Political Bureau since last year.

He is currently representing China at the Brics (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) National Security Advisors and Senior Representatives Meeting in Johannesburg.

In other business, during today’s plenary session, the 170 deputies also discussed a draft amendment to the Criminal Code, that mainly seeks to address corruption and bribery, particularly in private business environment.
