Violence increases in Dominican streets on weekends

Santo Domingo, Jul 24 (Prensa Latina) The increase of violence is something common in the Dominican Republic, especially on weekends, when the news outlets speak, as today, of femicides, robberies and disappearances occurred in the last hours.

“A 16 year old girl dies during a shooting in Moca” is the title of a report published on the front page of Diario Libre, which states that Yasmín Germosen died last night in a health center, after being wounded when some individuals shot at the place where she was with other people. The incident took place in the sector Las Guazumas del Higüerito, in the province of Santiago, where, according to police sources, six persons are under investigation.

Similarly, Diario Libre published that this Sunday a citizen found the body of a teenager of Haitian nationality floating in the waters of the Yaque del Norte river, in the community of Pastor, in Nibaje.

Although there are different versions of the cause of death of Catiana Auguste, 15, the newspaper said that according to friends of the girl, alleged assailants arrived with guns and everyone had to run, but she was swept away by the current of the water.

Meanwhile, AlMomento reported that the day before an individual wanted by the authorities on charges of armed robbery died when he confronted a police patrol in the Buenos Aires sector of Herrera, Santo Domingo West.
