Brian Garvey, deputy director of Massachusetts Peace Action (MAPA), stated that taking Cuba off Washington’s states sponsoring terrorism (SST) “would bring us back to reality and eliminate sanctions that harm ordinary Cubans much more than the government.
The advisable thing would be “a return to measures by former President Barack Obama (2009-2017) on Cuba.”
Lifting travel restrictions would allow both Cuban-Americans who want to visit their families and U.S. citizens to travel “more easily to Cuba from Florida,” Garvey stressed.
“Normalizing U.S.-Cuba relations would allow partnerships in medical developments and reopen economic opportunities that benefit both countries,” Garvey said.
He said they should do these things because “they are humane, economically sound and popular.”
Dividing the world into sides is a 20th century way of thinking and will not solve global issues such as pandemics and climate change.
“Think of Cuba as a neighbor, not a piece on a global game board,” he concluded.
American people urging President Joe Biden to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed over 60 years are heard in a broad spectrum.
