Witnesses blamed the Gran Grif gang that operates in the area and which in January killed seven policemen in the same locality.

In addition to homes, the gunmen also burned down the premises of Radio Antarctique and a pharmacy, while residents are calling for the intervention of state authorities, local press reported.

In the middle of this month, the same armed group opened fire on residents of the commune, resulting in five dead and several wounded. They also looted and set fire to several homes.

Videos circulating on social media showed bloodied bodies lying on the ground.

Haiti continues to be plagued by a deep crisis of violence at the hands of gangs responsible for hundreds of kidnappings and murders so far this year, while the government is asking for international help to deploy specialized troops to assist the police in combating the gangs.
