While giving a lecture at the headquarters of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, the trade union leader pointed out that such acts attempt against the rights of the working class, and seek to roll back labor and social conquests achieved after years of struggle and sacrifices. In this sense, he affirmed that the WFTU is organizing a solidarity campaign on occasion of July 26, Day of National Rebellion in Cuba, to spread the strong internationalist message that this island is not alone in its struggle against the hostility of the United States.
On that day, he pointed out, marches will be held in front of the embassies of that northern power in the capitals of the 133 countries affiliated to the trade union organization, to demand respect for the right of this Caribbean nation to sovereignty and self-determination.
Kyritsis referred to the world crisis, aggravated by the militarization imposed by the United States through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, to promote conflicts, while Europe is experiencing a rise of fascism and hunger throughout the world.
He stressed the role to be played by the workers in the face of these threats, as well as the need for unity to agree on common strategies to make more effective the struggle against the advance of big capital and imperialism.
The Secretary General of the WFTU began a Latin American tour in Cuba, which will also take him to Chile, Peru and Brazil.
During his stay in Havana, he will visit economic centers, scientific institutions and places of social interest, where he will talk with the workers.
