According to a police report on Friday, the consignment was aboard the Ferdinando d’Aragona fishing vessel and is one of the largest drug hauls ever seized in the country.

The opertion, coordinated by the Anti-Mafia District Directorate (DDA) in Palermo, involved aircraft and patrol boats that followed and blocked a Palau-flag mother ship and the Italian fishing vessel on which its crew members were arrested.

Investigators stated that the fishing vessel’s captain is from Calabria, and the seized drug was trafficked by Ndrangheta mafia groups.
