According to the ministry, China and Russia will develop joint exercises in anti-submarine and naval combat, sea- and airborne convoys of ships, and the protection and defense of ships in an unprotected port.
The exercises are aimed at ensuring the security of communications in the waters and airspace of the Sea of Japan. Joint artillery fire exercises will also be carried out.
The main goal of the exercise is to strengthen Russia-China naval cooperation and maintain stability and peace in the Asia-Pacific region, the Russian Defense Ministry stated.
Russia is represented by the anti-submarine destroyers Admiral Tributs and Admiral Panteleyev, and the corvettes Gremyashchiy and Aldar Tsydenzhapov.
Five ships of the People’s Liberation Army Navy will participate in the drill on the Chinese side: the destroyers Qiqihar and Guiyang, the frigates Zaozhuang and Rizhao, and the supply ship Taihu with four helicopters on board.
In addition, more than 30 naval aviation aircraft are involved in the exercises on both sides, including anti-submarine aircraft, helicopters, and fighter-interceptors.
