nicaragua-always-respects-icj-rulings-president-says
Managua, Jul 20 (Prensa Latina) Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega stressed that his country always respects the rulings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and urged Colombia to recognize the 2012 ruling.

During a speech on Wednesday, on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the triumph of the Sandinista Revolution, the head of State said that the verdict on the maritime conflict with Colombia granted Nicaragua some 75,000 square kilometers in the Caribbean Sea.

“I told Gustavo Petro, there is no other way than abide by and there we are one by one, one we won, another they won (…), but we must abide by the court’s ruling and for that there must be signs,” Ortega added.

He pointed out that there are former presidents who are somehow trying add fuel to the fire, and recalled that both countries are not nations with major confrontations in any other order, since the problems are related to the border.

“There we already have the way out so that we can find a way to translate this into a decree, an agreement that makes it clear that Nicaragua is the owner as in fact it is and is exercising sovereignty in those 75,000 kilometers in the Caribbean Sea,” he said.
