Lula was at the theatrical presentation of Dumont’s trajectory, which included a replica of the Brazilian 14 Bis plane, planned by Santos Dumont, who flew it on October 23, 1906 to represent the first flight of an object heavier than air.

Also in the event, the so-called Smoke Squad of the FAB performed acrobatic overflights and placed Santos Dumont 150 years old with smoke in the sky.

Similarly, the president handed over the Santos Dumont Medal of Merit at the ceremony to eight members of his government, including the Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin.

Held at the Brasilia Air Base, in addition to Alckmin, the event also received the award from Jorge Messias (from the General Attorney’s Office of the Union) and Vinícius Marques (head of the Comptroller General of the Union).

Likewise, the ministers Rui Costa (Civil House), Márcio Francia (Ports and Airports), Nísia Trindade (Health), Simone Tebet (Planning and Budget), Camilo Santana (Education) and Márcio Macêdo (General Secretariat of the Presidency).

Santos Dumont was born in the interior of the state of Minas Gerais (southeast) on July 20, 1873, in a city that was later renamed after him.

He was an inventor with international projection, in addition to the airplane, he created balloons, airships, an ultralight, a wristwatch, and a hot water shower. In 1901, he flew over Paris in a balloon.
