The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that according to paragraph six of the agreement between Russia and the UN, the agreement “will be valid for three years” and, in the event that one of the parties decides to terminate it, it must notify it three months in advance.
Thus the United Nations Secretariat still has 90 full days to continue its work to normalize Russian agricultural exports, the statement said.
“This is exactly the three-month timeframe in which the UN Secretary General planned to restore access to the SWIFT system of a subsidiary or affiliated structure of the Russian Agricultural Bank (Rosselkhozbank), as stated in the message it cited,” the source noted.
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the reconnection of Rosselkhozbank to the SWIFT payment system is the only option, and attempts to use other channels to arrange payment for agricultural exports only create the appearance of working on solving the situation.
“All these countermeasures are simply not feasible in practice and are intended only to create a semblance of work in a situation where the influence of the UN on Washington and Brussels, which control the payment systems, is no greater than its influence on Kiev.”
