This was revealed on Tuesday in the debates of the Commission of Attention to Youth, Children and Women’s Equal Rights of the National Assembly of People’s Power (parliament), where the results of the creation of gender committees and their strategies in productive units were presented.
The member of the national secretariat of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) Anierka Fernandez told Prensa Latina that the meeting revealed the lack of knowledge that still exists about the actions of the PAM, two years after its establishment.
She added that the meeting analyzed the progress made in the creation of children’s homes, an initiative that has already been implemented in more than a hundred entities in the country and has become a new source of employment.
The report presented by the deputies in the Commission highlighted the increase in the frequency and quality of training actions, counseling, gender talks given by specialists in education, health, Municipal University Centers and the FMC.
However, the strategies of the WAP have not yet been fully incorporated at the local level, so it was decided to propose to the President of the Cuban Parliament, Esteban Lazo, to incorporate the evaluation of the Program in the ordinary sessions of the Municipal Assemblies.
The Program for the Advancement of Women was approved by the Council of Ministers in October 2021 and was put into effect by Presidential Decree 198/2021 of March 8 of that year in the Official Gazette.
Its objectives are based on the equality of rights, opportunities and possibilities, and it maintains as transversal axes the fight against discrimination and violence in all its manifestations.
