Guterres warned that AI has “enormous potential for good and for evil on a large scale” and urged an early assessment of its implications in such important areas as the three pillars of the organization: development, human rights, and peace and security.
“AI creators have warned that much greater, potentially catastrophic and existential dangers lie ahead,” he said, alluding to the autonomy of some AI-operated tools or weapons.
“If we do not act to address these risks, we are forgetting our responsibilities to present and future generations,” Guterres stressed.
