The President will touch upon a broad thematic agenda, which includes Total Peace, a new policy against the problem of illicit drugs, just energy transition, decarbonization of the economy, debt swap for climate action, and the fight against poverty and inequality. He will also discuss Colombia’s candidacy to exercise the pro tempore presidency of CELAC during 2025, after which he will offer a press conference.

This Tuesday, Petro will also attend the Forum of Progressive Leaders at the invitation of the European Socialist Party (PES), organizer of the event, in which he will speak at the round table called “Facing climate change: towards a just and sustainable transition.”

The President will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders of the two regional blocs during his stay in Brussels.

It is expected that the official Declaration of the Summit will include an express reference to support the implementation of the Peace Agreement and the ongoing peace negotiations in Colombia.

The head of state participated on Monday in the People’s Summit, parallel to the meeting of EU-CELAC leaders, where he blamed the capitalist mode of production for being the cause of the climate crisis that represents an imminent danger for the human species.

He emphasized that the climate crisis is humanity’s main problem, and stressed the importance of acting immediately before reaching the point of no return
