Paraguayan responsibility confirmed for drug seized in Germany

Asuncion, Jul 18 (Prensa Latina) The local information agency reports today that Paraguay's National Customs Directorate (DNA) confirmed during an investigation involving 10 tons of cocaine seized in Germany, an omission during the scanning of the container that transported them.

A statement from the agency quoted by the official media adds that there was no report on the detailed images acquired by the operator who checked the cargo, sent on May 15 from the capital’s Fenix port and detained on July 5 in the German port of Hamburg.

The statement adds that the person in charge of checking the container by means of a scanner should have immediately communicated this information to the corresponding areas, which is now being investigated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office through an investigation that started yesterday together with other local entities with responsibility in the matter.

The cocaine, camouflaged inside a load of seeds, constitutes the second largest drug shipment of Paraguayan origin, containers seized in Germany, after another one was found in February 2021 (16 tons), the statement specifies.

Investigators pointed out today that two food export companies, Nopal SA and Gerbera SA, both incorporated less than a year ago, were among the entities suspected of playing a leading role in this drug trafficking action, according to the newspaper ABC Color.
