Until the 21st, representatives of travel agencies, tour operators specialized in this modality and clients, will be able to know, first hand, new products and others in great demand in this territory, privileged to include three national parks: Mensura-Piloto, Pico Cristal and Alejandro de Humboldt, a World Heritage Site.
As is traditional, Biotur began in the coastal city of Gibara, where Yoel Domínguez, director of Ecotur Sucursal Oriente, the agency promoting the event, pointed out that this edition is dedicated to adventure and rurality in the north eastern of the Caribbean island.
Therefore, excursions have been designed to farms associated with this type of tourism and to emblematic sites, such as El Salto del Guayabo, a leading product of Holguín province, located in the Pinares de Mayarí plateau, about 100 kilometers east of the main municipality and one of the highest waterfalls in Cuba.
During this first day, several presentations were made about the attributes of tourism of the Holguin cave system and those of the region for bird watching, the latter by Debra Baker, professor of Ecology at the University of Kansas, in the United States.
In addition, the Biotur 2023 award was given to Rocazul Biopark, part of the Christopher Columbus Park, for the results of its managers in the conservation and protection of natural resources, the effectiveness of site management, the contribution to the environmental education of its visitors, as well as its impact on local development.
This recognition was also received by Professor Manuel Menéndez, who is the founder of the event and has a vast work devoted in promoting and designing nature tourism products in the region.
