China advocates protection of civilians in Russia-Ukraine conflict

Rusia-evacuados-Donbass-1
Beijing, Jul 18 (Prensa Latina) China urged all parties involved in the Ukraine crisis to avoid attacks against civilian targets to protect their safety and comply with international humanitarian laws. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning made these statements regarding the attack on the Kerch bridge linking Crimea to the Russian mainland.

China’s position on the Ukrainian crisis has always been clear and we hope that all parties will commit themselves to politically solve this issue and jointly promote the de-escalation of the situation, she added.

China has on multiple occasions insisted on the call to remain calm and resume the negotiating table, no matter how difficult and challenging it may be.

Beijing called on the international community to support any efforts leading to the end of the conflict and reiterated its willingness to play a constructive role in the cessation of hostilities and the transition to peace.

According to the Russian side, the Ukrainian Special Services carried out the attack on the Kerch Bridge on Monday.

“Two Ukrainian water drones attacked the bridge over the Kerch Strait, and as a result of the terrorist act, the viaduct road was damaged. Two adults were killed and one child was injured,” as reported by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
